RIP Heath

As many of you who live around here have probably heard by now, Heath L. passed away on Monday in a horrible car accident, along with his girlfriend and her daughter.   He was 20 years old.  Generally I keep the posts on this blog lighthearted and positive, but after attending Heath’s funeral today I was too moved to not say anything at all.

I first met Heath when he was 14 years old and I’ll never forget it.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  It was like looking in a mirror into my own husband’s past.

From the first time we were introduced I thought to myself that he was probably pretty close to what my husband was like at his age.  Aside from the fact that they had similar stature Heath was always extremely polite (especially around women), somewhat quiet although not shy and an incredibly hard worker who would do anything for anybody.  I cannot recall a single time that I encountered Heath that he didn’t tip his hat and say “howdy, ma’am” in his quiet Southern drawl.

Like many of us Heath made some regretful decisions in this life but he repented and learned from them.  His life positively impacted many people and has left fond memories for many of us to remember him by.  He will be missed.  My condolences go out to his family.

Note: The picture above was shared today at his funeral.  I don’t know who took it, so I can’t give them credit but it’s a great picture.  In light of the situation I don’t think they’ll mind if I share it here.

Bailey County Relay for Life

I am very excited to be a participant in this year’s Bailey County Relay for Life which is coming up on Friday (June 6th).

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event designed to build community awareness and raise money to fight cancer.

My daughters and I are proud to be on Jayci Joy Nickels’ team which is aptly called “Faith, Hope and Jayci Joy”. They raised $179 for Jayci’s team and are excited to walk in the Relay on Friday along with all of the other kids on Jayci’s team, which is made up entirely of children.

In addition, I will be taking portraits at the event with 100% of the proceeds going to Relay For Life. I’ll be offering very special pricing just for this event to help raise money for the fight against cancer. If you’ve been anxious to have casual portraits made of your children but haven’t had time to schedule a full session, set some time aside to come out and see me on Friday evening to get a quality portrait with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Bailey County Relay for Life!

More details on the special pricing will be announced later in the week here on the blog. You’ll definitely want to make plans to join us for an evening of fun, remembrance, good food, great people and a wonderful community experience — all for a great cause.

There will be ice cream sundaes and floats, glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets, baked goods, fajitas, a cake walk, a pink ribbon sale, balloon darts, a spin sonic wheel, t-shirts, messages to Heaven balloons, sumo wrestling, a concession stand and lots of fun!

Following is a schedule of events:

6:00 p.m. Opening Ceremonies

6:30 p.m. Survivor/Caregiver Lap

7:00 p.m. Opening Lap for all teams

Wacky Wednesday

How about something random and wacky for this Wednesday afternoon?

Have you ever heard of GeoGreetings? The program uses satellite images of buildings around the globe that you can then use to create interesting greetings. Pretty clever!

Apparently it’s also ‘how geeks show they care’ so I guess I’m a geek! Check it out for yourself… you can easily e-mail your geogreeting to friends too.
